The Exhibition in the Barnsley Civic 15th - 24th June is made from the documentation of this journey
As part of an ongoing investigation into how the way we work is perceived, remunerated and legitimised this project makes connections between Madrid, where I am based, and Barnsley using actions of cleaning to create a basic element of art making: the line. Utilizing cleaning equipment as media I have visited towns, villages and cities along the line. In the centre of these places I have swept the dirt and collected a little. Through actions of rubbing and scrubbing more marks and lines have been collected and the act of cleaning has been transformed into an act of drawing.
The line which connects Madrid to Barnsley is drawn using the dirt collected along the way. The journey is also documented through other drawings, prints and mailed dirt. Through these everyday actions we might reflect upon what connects us and examine the place of cleaning in our lives. The aim is to make this labour more visible.
